Scotia 1/2 Marathon Completed :)

Start line!

Run Trisha Run!

Sprinting to the finish!

WE DID IT!!!

On June 26th I woke up to a new day. It was 5 am and there was still time before my alarm was going to be going off but I thought lets start it now :)

Caralyn and I had spent the night at a residence dorm in UBC. We were on our way to complete our first ever 1/2 marathon!!! I got up, ate breaky and we packed out bags and belts. Headed to the car to leave our stuff and off to the taxi we went.

Got to the start line and I could feel the nerves starting. It was so amazing to see all these people there. Searching the crowd for people that I knew. Seeing what others were wearing and doing to get ready. Finally it was time to start.....and off we all went!!!

The first 4 kms were amazing. They felt good and were going by fast. We did our u turn on Marine and headed past the 5 km mark. 1/4 of the way there already really??? We were making amazing time and both feeling good at this point!

7 km came and we decided we were doing so well lets take a quick bathroom break.......9 minutes later (cause of the line up not how long in the stall) we were back on the road.

At this point I was a little upset that it took so long in the line......we were making awesome timing and now back to were we usually were......but that is okay we are still doing this.

Kept on going....the first 10 minutes for me after a break like that is hard for me to get the groove back.

We passed Jerrico beach and kits.......away we were......

Still feeling a little upset about the time we decided to stop at the next rest room just cause. No need to feel uncomfy right.........this time was a little faster but still put us behind......

I don't do good with change but we were still doing it.

Run for 10 min walk for 1. This is what we did the entire time!

Crossing the bridge at the 18 km mark was a good time. The bridge of course was an uphill but we ran it. We noticed all these people were walking up the hill and at that point I was proud that we didn't NEED that extra walk. We had trained to the t and were able to push through the mental part of the race and do it.

Off the bridge and coming up to Stanley park......19.......20......

The people were in the streets calling our names and clapping for us.
We were out there doing this. We could have stopped. We weren't forced to do this run but here we were!!!

At marker 21 you cross this pad and it reads our foot chips to the big computer. Next thing we knew on the loud speaker was "Caralyn Race and Trisha Maass are on there way to the finish line".

We both smiled and said lets go. .1 km to go. Giving it any kind of energy that we had left we sprinted across that finish line both wearing big smiles!!!

We were so proud.........2:54 min.

After our stretches and cool downs we headed to my car. I got in the car and could feel the muscles. They weren't painful, but definitly could feel them.
On the way home I played the morning over and over again in my head. Still was so unreal that I had completed my first ever 21.1 km 1/2 Marathon RUN.

I got home and didn't even unpack the car, I gave Tom and big hug as tears were coming down my cheeks. I found the kids and once again big hugs.

Nick said to me "did you run??"

I said "Yes I did"
